此枚山鬼花钱保存较好，图案清晰可见，字迹生俊有力，包浆老厚，锈迹自然，是中国古钱币长流河中的一条重要支流，积淀了深厚的民俗文化内涵。这枚钱币一面是八卦图，另一面中间竖书二十七字咒语“雷霆雷霆、杀鬼降精、斩妖辟邪、永保神清。奉太上老君急急如律令敕”。山鬼纹饰花钱的背面，是楷体阳文八卦纹饰和乾—兑—离—震—巽—坎—艮—坤八个楷书阳文。
花钱又称“厌胜钱”，“厌”字此处念yā，通“压”，有倾覆、适合、抑制、堵塞、掩藏、压制的意思。花钱源于汉代，工艺精湛，寓意深邃，涉猎范围广,铸造精巧而著称于世。旧时人们认为可以压制邪魅。清代道士用来施法以降妖震鬼驱邪的载体，也可叫法器。经道士开光后，百姓请回挂于家中镇宅或随身携带保平安。
