在清末民国时期,我国的钱币市场中具有较多的货币类型,使用最为广泛的就是银元和铜元了。在这繁多的货币类型中,双旗币是最具有特殊历史意义的一类钱币,因其钱币币面上印制有双旗图案而得名。
双旗币铸造于民国时期,1910年12月29日,经辛亥革命后,已光复的17省代表在南京推选孙中山为中华民国临时大总统。1912年1月3日,中华民国政府宣告成立,清朝灭亡,孙中山颁令铸造“中华民国开国纪念币”(也叫双旗币),以十文面值的为主,在全国大量发行以取代清朝铜元。中华民国开国纪念币是民国铜元收藏研究中数量很大,也是很重要的一个品类,甚至可以说是民国铜元的主体品种,非常珍贵。
民国成立后,铜元仍继续大量流通使用。1914年,铜元正式改称“铜币”,民国发行的铜币与清最大的区别是龙纹被换成了由稻穗组成的嘉禾纹。各省铸造的铜元大多为两面叉的国旗图案。
