1904年（光绪三十年）11月，孙中山重抵檀香山。20多名华侨青年接受他的倡仪，举行会议，成立了兴中会。这是中国第一个以建立新制度为目标的民主革命纲领。

  1911年（宣统三年）10月10日，武昌起义爆发。孙中山在美国得知消息后，12月下旬与日本友人(4张) 回国，即被17省代表以每省1票的方式16票赞成1票反对的结果选举为中华民国临时大总统。

近日广 东省锦恒博物馆 有幸征集到 孙中山二十一年金本位 ，“ 此枚钱币包浆 完整均匀 ，字体纯正，为民国银元十大珍品之一。藏品正面为孙中山先生侧面肖像，上刻“中华民国二十一年”正楷；背面为双帆船航行于海面，上环“金本位币伍圆”六字，帆船左侧为海上日出和九条芒线，海面为三只低飞的海鸥；藏品保存较好，其色泽自然，不论是文字还是图案，都显得自然细腻，深浅合适。孙中山头像更是栩栩如生，银元散发出一股王者的风范和历史沉淀的气息，设计新颖，铸工精湛；采用民国二十一年意大利版样币图案，所有样币钢模均由美国费城造币厂雕刻，并铸造少量样币。随后美方将钢模和样币一同交付民国政府。由于局势变化，各国相继取消金本位制，所以金本位币发行计划终止，在国内并未进行铸造发行，金本 位之 所以名气大 ， 是由于 它 的历史性和稀有性决定的。
