光绪元宝是清朝光绪年间流通的货币之一。由两广总督张之洞率先引进英国铸币机器铸造银元和铜元，之后各省纷纷仿效，共有十九个省局铸造。光绪年间铸造了一系列银币，但江南省造光绪元宝由于不便于流通使用，故铸额极其稀少，更显珍贵。江南省造光绪元宝系指清代光绪二十三年至三十一年(1897-1905年)由南京造币厂铸造的“光绪元宝”系列银币，系清代正式铸行的法定流通银币。但铸行江南省造银币的清末，已无江南省建制。江南省设于清朝顺治二年(1645年)，省府位于江宁(今南京)。清代的江南省前身是明朝的南直隶江南省，范围大致相当于今天的江苏省、上海市和安徽省。康熙六年(1667年)清廷撤江南省，分设江苏和安徽两个省。南京造币厂将其铸造的银币标明“江南省造”，是因为当时苏州已经有一个专铸机制铜元的造币厂，其铸造的铜元均标明“江苏省造”。为避免混淆，南京造币厂将其铸造的银币标明“江南省造”。系我国货币史上唯一有名无实的省份银币。

江南省造甲辰光绪元宝库平七钱二分银币，南京造币厂于光绪三十年(1904年)铸造，银币正面中央珠圈内镌满汉文“光绪元宝”四字，圈外上端镌“江南省造”，下端镌币重“库平七钱二分”，左右两侧分镌干支纪年“甲辰”二字，“甲”字上侧镌英文“CH”、TH，“辰”字上侧镌英文“HAH”字样，CH“甲辰”二字下面有无点与有点、有四点花。银币背面中央镌一个新版龙图，有七前有点与无点，上端镌英文“江南省”，下端镌英文币重“库平七钱二分”，左右各镌一个六点花星，六点花星前有点与无点。
