“八友”分 别是:王琦、王大凡、汪野亭、邓碧珊、毕伯涛、何许人、程意亭、刘雨岑。珠山八友在继承我国优秀景德镇陶瓷传统的基础上,汲取民间景德镇陶瓷艺术的营养,以扬州八怪为典范,以海派艺术家为榜样,容纳西方陶瓷艺术风格和技法,用充溢的时代气息和满腔的爱国热情,投入瓷艺创作,冲破明清官窑的藩篱,像一股清泉,一泄而下,不可遏止。如王崎在瓷器上面人物,汲取了黄慎的写意手法,表现人物的衣纹和风姿,获得颇为奇妙的效果。王大凡不用玻璃白打底,直接将彩料涂到瓷胎上的落地彩技法至今影响着景德镇陶瓷艺人。邓碧珊是第一个在瓷板上描绘人物肖像的瓷画家。汪野亭在前人的基础上,以国画的泼墨法,在瓷器上绘山水,同样出现墨分五色的中国画效果,给景德镇陶瓷的山水作品注人了生机。刘雨岑凭借自己深厚的功底,创"水点"技法,在景德镇陶瓷粉彩艺术上产生了极大的影响,这种技术后来运用于烧制毛主席专用瓷,被誉为当代官窑。

玻璃白填底色,直接将色料填绘在瓷胎上,再罩雪白、水绿之类料色,简化工艺,画意更浓。程意亭的花鸟设色,既有文人画清雅的一面,又有工笔重彩的艳丽,其填色工艺达到运用自如、驾轻就熟的程度。刘雨岑创立了"水点桃花"画法,用含有色料的水笔,依次点染在相应大小的"玻璃白"底色上,既有传统填色的粉润效果,又具有画意生动的韵味。他在自己的文章中还写道:"记得过去,我在瓷上表现桃花时,由于对料性掌握得不够,以玻璃白掺染洋红点出桃花,烧后成色发乌,后来经过反复试验,采取先以玻璃白作花,再在其上以洋红点出的办法,才得出国画桃花的效果来。由此可见,要用祖国最具有民族特色的国画来装饰最具有优良传统的瓷器,使它们结合在一起,成为我国民族文化中一朵永开不败的鲜花。作为陶瓷美术工作者,除了要对料性、对瓷画有丰富的经验和技巧之外,还必须熟谙国画用墨用色的技法。"珠山八友瓷画家的这些彩绘新工艺有的已成为一种技法,在粉彩中广为运用,有的已成为一种瓷画形式被后人继承。
