而就在最近征集到一枚极为稀少的25年光绪元宝，此藏品正面中心直读“光绪元宝”四字，上环“北洋造”，底部铸“库平七钱二分”记值；钱币背面一条栩栩如生的神龙，大脑袋，左右两旁有2只大龙角，鳞片清晰，外环英文。钱币包浆熟旧，字样、龙纹十分清晰，锈迹自然，品相较好，版面设计优雅，雕刻精良，但是，铸造量不多，所以存世稀少，具有较高的历史价值与学术价值。

北洋银币，始铸于光绪二十二年（1896年），因北洋政府所铸造而得名，由北洋机器局承制。
开始的时候，北洋机器局主要生产军火，后来李鸿章把分出一部分资源来，成立了北洋机器铸钱局。光绪22年起铸造北洋龙洋，一直到光绪34年。北洋龙系列按铸造年份分为：22、23、24、25、26、29、33、34年。
北洋25年龙洋所选用的龙，威武雄伟但又不失祥和，一改前期北洋龙威严凶猛的风格。以后各年份的北洋龙系列，均以北洋25龙形为基础进行不断的修模，因此北洋25年龙洋的出现具有划时代的意义。
北洋25年龙洋共有两大龙形、两类云朵、五种火焰。传统的分版方式是以火焰的特点来划分的，被大多数泉友认可。
