董其昌(1555-1636),华亭(今上海)人。字玄宰,号思白、香光居士。万历十六年(1588)进士,官至南京礼部尚书,谥文敏。董其昌擅画山水,师法董源、巨然、黄公望、倪瓒,笔致清秀中和,恬静疏旷;用墨明洁隽朗,温敦淡荡;青绿设色,古朴典雅。以佛家禅宗喻画,倡“南北宗”论,为“华亭画派”杰出代表,兼有“颜骨赵姿”之美。
Dong Qichang (1555-1636), from Huating (now Shanghai). The word Xuanzai is called Sibai and Xiangguang Gushi. In the sixteenth year of Wanli (1588), Jinshi, an official, went to Nanjing Ritual Department to write a book, Ji Wenmin. Dong Qichang is good at painting landscapes. He imitates Dong Yuan, Juran, Huang Gongwang and Ni Zan. His brushwork is elegant and neutral, quiet and sparse. His ink is clear and meaningful, and his style is simple and elegant. With Buddhist Zen figurative painting and advocating the theory of "North and South Sect", it is an outstanding representative of "Huating Painting School" and has the beauty of "Yan Gu Zhao Zi".
